Overview

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), also known as orthotripsy or shockwave therapy. ESWT works by initiating the inflammatory cascade to stimulate healing to help manage both acute and chronic musculotendinous pain. One of the greatest benefits of shockwave is that it does not require down time. This can be particularly beneficial for in season athletes or individuals who would prefer to not have significant down time from a procedure.

What to Expect

ESWT operates by delivering rapid mechanical forces, distinct from electrical impulses, directly to the targeted area of pain. These forces, akin to cavitation, work to stimulate a natural repair process within your body by enhancing blood flow and mobilizing healing factors. Additionally, these mechanical forces possess the ability to interrupt the pain pathway, leading to a noticeable reduction in discomfort.

Aftercare

Refrain from using ice or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment. However, you'll be pleased to know that there are no limitations on engaging in physical activities or sports performance following your session. Typically, treatments are conveniently conducted in our office once a week for three to five consecutive weeks, ensuring a seamless path to recovery.
